City Nights and Holiday Lights!
Steve Kozak, Instructor
When: Tuesday December 8, 2015
Time: 5:30pm – 9:30pm
Cost: Free to TPPA Members
Join Steve Kozak on Tuesday, December 8 from 5:30 PM – 9:30 PM in the heart of downtown Grapevine for an evening of night photography and holiday cheer with this hands-on workshop. “City Nights and Holiday Lights” is designed to help photographers learn about how to capture great images at night and techniques for capturing holiday lighting displays
About the Workshop:
Photographers will meet in downtown Grapevine and Steve will begin by discussing some tips and techniques for taking night photographs. Participants will receive notes which will provide some suggested exposures for many unique lighting situations. After the short discussion, participants will walk through the streets of Grapevine to photograph the spectacular lighting and decorations throughout the city.
Steve will discuss the importance of proper white balancing to produce accurate, vivid colors in your night images.
This image was captured with the camera set to Auto White Balance.
This image was taken with the camera set to manual white balance.
Notice the two images at left. The first image was taken with the “white balance” setting on the camera set to AWB. The result is an orange overtone that dilutes the color of the display.
With the white balance setting on the “incandescent light bulb” setting, the image is now recorded with much more accuracy to the colors used in the display. Steve will share how to use the icons on the white balance settings as well as using the K setting for even more accurate color!
He will also discuss the proper metering and measurement of light when photographing a building that is being lit with floodlights and a building that is decorated with holiday lighting.
What to bring:
Small pin light flashlight
Wide angle lens (17mm to 28mm)
Warm gloves and hat
This workshop is sure to raise your skills as a photographer and the quality of your images as you discover:
- Capturing great exposures for night photography

- How adding flash to your night images can create interesting effects
