“Epic Sports Banners”
A profitable product and highly effective marketing tool. Vinyl banners are all the rage in High School and Youth Sports these days. Everyone is doing them. Some photographers offer them for free in hopes of landing the seemingly more profitable team and individual job or maybe even the elusive senior session. DIY parents offer to do them for free to save the team money. And still, there are saavy professionals who are not only getting paid nicely for them but they’re also getting additional jobs as a direct result of their banner work! In this presentation Christy will start by teaching you the specific posing and lighting techniques she uses to really make her banners get noticed and stand out from the rest! Next you will follow along as she goes step by step through her composite creation process using both custom techniques and speedy templates. She’ll be sharing her list of suppliers with you, how she markets her banners, and best of all you will learn several ways be profitable with sports banners even after counting your cost of goods, your cost of doing business and most important your time!

A journey through certification and beyond! Christy will take you step by step through her personal journey of becoming a Certified Professional Photographer. She will share why you too should jump on this emotional and rewarding ride. If you’ve already accomplished this feat you’ll have the chance to relive it and refresh your memory of all that you learned. If you’re considering taking the next step toward certification you will walk away feeling inspired and equipped to forge ahead! Join us for this lively, interactive and heartfelt program!

Christy and her mother Pat started their photography careers and joined PPA in 2001. After running a mildly successful studio for 7 years Christy and her family embarked on a new journey in a new town taking a break from photography as a business. Two years later she realized she wanted to be able to contribute to her kids impending college dreams so she decided it was time to get serious again. In 2013 Christy declared her candidacy for CPP with PPA. She had no idea at the time what a huge impact becoming a Certified Professional Photographer would have on her business as well as for her personally. Having lived all over the world with many extraordinary experiences, Christy has a unique perspective on life and what really matters. She considers herself a quote junkie and currently her favorite quote is “Pray as though everything depended on God. Work as though everything depended on you.” ~ Saint Augustine

“Be Known By Sight”
Do people see your photography and instantly associate the style as uniquely yours? Or is it just another image from a vast sea of a zillion other photographers? Is your style appealing or does it feel like yesterday’s news? Why are so many struggling while a few are thriving? Do you feel like you are at the mercy of your fellow peers? Let’s start with how the Edmonson’s defined and refined their style. For David and Luke, their style is described as “original, spontaneous and powerful images that are profound with dimensionality, ingrained with emotion and compelling in their beauty.” Over the past decades, they have been in a relentless pursuit of what makes them attractive to clients with a higher visual IQ. They’ve asked themselves, the most important question of “Why’. From there it’s simply, “How do we go about providing depth to their imagery?” “How to solve the common issues we all face?” “What personal issues are getting in the way of us being the best photographer we can be?”

The Edmonson’s have been called a “Master Photographer to Master Photographers” and with good reason. With a lifetime spent growing up within the industry, the indelible impact Luke Edmonson leaves with clients, students and peers around the world is remarkable. Regarded as one of the best wedding photographers in the world, no doubt, his signature style is unmistakable. But it’s his “Iron-Sharpens-Iron” philosophy that has fueled his art and professional success. Luke is a sought-after speaker and educator nationally and abroad, teaching workshops to the up and coming aspiring photographer, to share his talent and know-how to help others hone their craft. He is an invited member of the Camera Craftsman of America, one of the oldest, most prestigious groups in the world dedicated to advancing the profession of photography as an art form. Most recently, he had his Fellowship conferred from the Societies of Wedding & Portrait Photographers in London. Well regarded as a print judge for major international print competitions, he served two terms as President of the Dallas Professional Photographers Association. It’s often said that Art Imitates Life. If you’ve ever seen the work of Luke & David Edmonson, this is clearly true.

“Mind Your Own Business!”
Now that I have your attention, let’s talk about YOUR business. Professional photographers are more prone to consider themselves to be artists than business experts. And just look in history to what has happened to a vast majority of artists over time – they’ve either lived in poverty or gone bankrupt. That’s the very reason you need to attend this program! Ignoring or not paying enough attention to YOUR business can prove disastrous to your business. This program is going to be very pro-active. We’re going to be solving problems as we go. We will be looking at your studio’s location, products, and services. We’ll explore how to price you products to include profit. And we’ll be looking at a lot of administrative issues that no one really wants to spend time thinking about, but some of these areas can make a give you huge returns if they are handled properly. It’s been my observation, for many years, that you can be a fabulous photographer with little or no business skills and struggle to survive. But I’ve also observed that you can be an average photographer with excellent business skills and make lots of money! Professional photographers, as a general rule, don’t attend programs that don’t contain lighting and posing instructions or describe the newest, latest, and greatest gee-whiz digital toys out there. Those who attend this program, listen, and implement the needed changes in their businesses will be well underway to being in the successful category! Will you be there?

“What Makes A Great Photo!”
Rules area subjective and we need to know the rules to make good photos. However we must be able to break the rules of photography when needed as well. What if you don’t know or understand the rules? The presentation will run through some of the basics of composition and exposure just as an informational process. The main topic of the presentation is about what makes a great photo? Then the presentation moves to determining the subject of the photo and finally moves into the character of the photo and what is the difference between the subject and the character. There is a huge difference and you can have one without the other.

“Shooting The Verb”
Showing what makes good photojournalism photos. The idea of taking a sentence and breaking it down into parts such as a subject noun and verb along with the adjectives and adverbs. How does all this apply to a photo? The same process has to happen in a photograph if we are trying to tell a story with a flat two dimensional square box.
