Big Changes for 2018

The 2018 edition of the Annual TPPA Photographic Competition has undergone some changes in the rules and awards.  Here are the important highlights:

Multiple Albums may be entered:  In the past, we only allowed one album entry, but we are now allowing multiple albums to be entered.  Each album will count as “one entry” in a physical or digital “case”.  A “case” may contain up to eight entries.

TPPA has two divisions in our competition to include the Photographic Open category and the Master Artist category.  Entrants can now enter a maximum of eight entries in any combination of Photographic Open, Artist or Album entries into the competition as a single case.

The Photographic Open category serve those who compete with prints or digital files created by traditional photographic processes as well as those captured electronically with a digital camera or scanner:

The Master Artist category serves those who compete with their skills in the PPA Master Artist Category using prints or digital files.  This creates the opportunity for Artist images to be judged separately from the Photographic Open category.

The maximum number of entries in a case has changed from four to eight.  This will give members a chance to gain feedback on additional images and to compete for newly created awards.   A maximum of eight entries in any combination of Photographic Open, Artist or Album entries be submitted into the competition in a single case.

Entrants may now enter multiple cases. You may now enter more than one case, however, each case is limited to 8 entries.

A new Non-Event Album entry was created.  This new category is for albums of images that do not qualify under the Event Album Category.

Awards were created for the new Non-Event Album Category for both non-Master and Master entries.

Student categories have been eliminated. At the request of the students and faculty of our friends at ACC, we have eliminated the distinction of “Student” images. Students now enter their images in the competition and are eligible for all image awards. We did keep the “Best Entry by a Student” award.

New Awards Pins
A new line of awards pins was created for case with entries scoring 80 or above based on the following:
•   Bronze – 4 entries in a case scoring 80 or above
•   Silver – 5 entries in a case scoring 80 or above
•   Gold – 6 entries in a case scoring 80 or above
•   Platinum – 7 entries in a case scoring 80 or above
•   Diamond – 8 entries in a case scoring 80 or above

Changes for the “Top Ten Cases” and the “Highest Scoring Image”
The Highest Scoring Case Award will be determined by average score of all images and albums in a case containing at least 4 images.

The Top 10 Case Awards will be determined by the average score of all images and albums in a case containing at least 4 images.

The 2018 Presidents’ Theme is, “Class of 2018”.
The trophy will be awarded by TPPA President, Tammy Graham for the best interpretation of  a high school senior portrait.

Case Fees
The case fee for the TPPA Annual Photographic Competition is $59 for up to four entries and  then $10 for each additional entry.

A maximum of eight entries in any combination of Photographic Open, Artist or Album entries may be submitted into the competition as a single case.

New Recorded Critiques
You can now order a recorded judge’s critique for $10 per image requested.  This is a great way to get personal feedback for your images.
