Hosted by Karen Butts

naturalimages@att.net

A merit image contains all of the twelve elements; color balance and composition are just two of these elements. By strengthening these elements, your images will be taken to the next level. Color balance and composition are two very important elements of a merit image. Color has a language all of its own. It has power. It makes a statement. Color affects your mood. Learn the magic of color and how to use it to improve your images. Color can augment the message you wish to portray in your image.

Affiliates newIn this class you will learn about that language and how color impacts your composition. You will also learn about the different types of color harmony and other important aspects of color, such as hue and value. Presentation of the image will also be discussed. Composition is defined as the combining of distinct parts or elements to form a whole. A good composition can have a positive impact on your image by causing the viewer to keep exploring within the frame. The various types of composition, such as the Rule of 3rds, Golden Spiral and Counterpoint, will be explored. Materials will be provided to help you have a “hands on” experience with Color and Composition.

Meet TPPA Member, Karen Butts

I am a CPP, a Master Photog. and will receive my Craftsman degree in January 2017 at Imaging USA. My love for color and art began as soon as I could hold a crayon. I was born with the desire to create and have always been the happiest when being creative, no matter the medium. Even though my dad said, “you cannot make any money being an artist,” the urge would not go away. As a young adult, I belonged to an art guild and even sold some of my work. After marriage and starting a family, I filled my spare time with hobbies to fulfill my creative urge, such as painting, pottery, quilting, sewing, and scrap booking. At the age of 55, when our three children had completed college, I attended the Texas School of Photography and my life was changed forever. I came home, quit my day job and started following my heart. My photographic hobby turned into my avenue to becoming the artist that I had dreamed of since childhood.
